... Software conflict seem likely but most likely it is a hardware driver as these are not loaded in Windows Safe Mode but are loaded on Word Safe Mode. Corrupt proofing tools have been known to cause 100% CPU, but proofing is active in the background all the time regardless of which Ribbon tab is selected.

After first boot the computer slows to a halt with Winfax using 100% CPU. We have tried installing onto a fresh install of NT4.0 SP3 and it still did not work. We have tried with only one of the modems still no luck. Without sp3, still no luck. We then tried it on another PC, it worked first time no problems.
